As an old art form, the puppet show in Wuhua county in Meizhou has a history of about 600 years.
In 2008, the Wuhua puppet show was listed in the first group of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The puppets in the show can perform lion dances, write calligraphy and even play traditional Chinese musical instruments, such as the er hu (a Chinese two-stringed bowed musical instrument) and suo na (double-reeded horn).
