HOCKENHEIM - Two Chinese teams have competed in this year's week-long Formula Student Germany (FSG), an international race car design competition, which concluded Sunday here.

Student teams need to build a single seat formula race car to compete against counterparts from across the world. Not only the race speed, but also the car construction procedure, race performance and the car's financial and sales planning are taken into consideration for the final results.

More than 110 international teams participated in the event, which has three competition groups, namely of combustion, electric and driverless race car.

The two Chinese teams were DONGFENG HUAT from Hubei University of Automobile Technology and RUISU from Hunan University. Wang Keke, captain of the DONGFENG HUAT, said the competition helps expand the team's horizon.

"Some leading teams have very novel designs, and their cars have performed excellently, which are very worth learning for us," Wang said.

Ludwig Vollrath, a board member of the FSG, described the games as the bridge between college students and the automobile industry, expressing hope that the students can put their professional skills into real practice through the games.

Vollrath said despite the longer participation history and more experience of some German and European teams, he has been impressed by the recent performance of the Chinese teams, especially in the electric race cars.

Chinese start-up automobile manufacturer Nio, a sponsor of the two Chinese teams, said the company aims to help Chinese teams to improve through participation and exchanges with international counterparts.
