Agriculture pros help villagers build modern base
In November 2018, Yang Dake and five other professional agricultural managers invested in the economic fruit forest project in Wuniu village in Chongqing's Yubei district.
They took advantage of an opportunity presented by a rural reform pilot program in the village to explore ideas and models for rural revitalization.
The "triple transformation" pilot program refers to the conversion of resources to assets, capital to equity and farmers to shareholders.
Yang, 45, returned to his village in Yunyang county of Chongqing to start a business after his university graduation. He has led his fellow villagers out of poverty over the past several years.
In 2018, he and five others were selected as role models in the rural revitalization in Chongqing. They set up a consulting company together to help local farmers with agricultural technology, management, marketing and branding.
They worked with Wuniu village to build a modern fruit plant specializing in peach plums.
About 3,000 hectares have been transformed into assets, 3 million yuan ($430,000) in capital has been transformed into equity and participating farmers have become shareholders.
The reform effort has lifted Wuniu out of poverty and laid a solid foundation for future prosperity.
