Jiangxi village paves road to prosperity
Presently, life conditions in Longtu village have been enhanced in all aspects. As most people own smartphones now, the computer in the village government office villagers used to rely on to have video chats with their family members now is barely touched.
At the end of 2018, all 198 impoverished households in Longtu village have been lifted out of poverty. "Five years ago, Longtu village was one of the poorest villages in Xunwu county. Today, the average monthly income of villagers exceeds 1,000 yuan," Wu said with pride.
But the road to prosperity is complex. Enriching the cultural life of villagers is the new focus for Longtu village. Currently, the village has set up a cultural center and a number of smaller cultural zones scattered across the village, Wu said.
The cultural center has an array of facilities and spaces, which provide locals with a platform to sing, read, play musical instruments and chat with each other. Lectures with different themes are also organized to broaden villagers' horizons.
“But these are far from enough,” Wu said. “We have got rid of poverty, but we still have a long way to go.”
