Cafe brews up career for hearing-impaired barista
A Ken (alias), who is hearing-impaired, had always hoped to become a barista. Although he won coffee brewing competitions, some coffee shops still rejected him because he cannot communicate with clients like normal people.
With the help of the Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation, three months ago, he became an employee of the popular Shanghai cafe Hinichijou, also known as the Bear Paw Cafe. Due to his excellent performance, he was promoted to become a shop manager.
Hinichijou launched its first store on Yongkang Road on Dec 3. The cafe has gone viral among netizens because of its quirky concept which involves an employee wearing a furry bear claw to serve customers through a hole in the wall.
"I'm proud that I have gotten this job, which helps me better integrate into society. Thank you so much for your support, and I hope to make better coffee in the future."
