Old Beijing comes to life in performances
Performances highlighting life in taverns and teahouses on old Beijing opened to the public from June 12 to 14 at the Tianqiao Performing Arts Center in Xicheng district, Beijing.
Aiming to enlighten people about the culture of old Beijing during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the performances recreated scenes from taverns and teahouses, allowing people to travel back in time while even having the chance to try on traditional clothing.
The performances also revived a number of cultural dimensions of old Beijing, including acrobatics, cross talk and shadow puppet play.
Many people were drawn to the event. "What an exciting performance it is!" said a visitor. "Some of the shows I've never seen before. It vividly restored old Beijing."
"I brought my kid here and I want her to be enriched by traditional Chinese culture, especially something from old Beijing," said another visitor.
