China's Way of Poverty Alleviation: Decoding the Governance System of the Communist Party of China [Photo provided to China Daily]

In February 2021, President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, announced in a conference held to mark China's poverty alleviation accomplishments that through the joint efforts of the whole Party and the people of all ethnic groups in the country, China has achieved a comprehensive victory in the fight against poverty at the important moment of ushering in the centenary of the founding of the CPC. All 98.99 million impoverished rural residents living under the poverty line have all been lifted out of poverty, and all 832 impoverished counties and 128,000 villages have also been removed from the poverty list, and the overall regional poverty situation has improved; the arduous task of eliminating absolute poverty has created another miracle in the annals of history, marking the great glory of the Chinese people, the CPC and the Chinese nation.

What China has achieved also contributes greatly to world poverty reduction, and provides a fine sample for the world's reference. To summarize and introduce China's experience in poverty alleviation and its governance under the leadership of the CPC, Chongqing Publishing Group has published the book China's Way of Poverty Alleviation: Decoding the Governance System of the Communist Party of China. And in June, this book saw the launch of its English edition, translated and published by the group.

This book is jointly created by top experts in the field of poverty alleviation from both home and abroad, including Robert Lawrence Kuhn and Wang Sangui. Kuhn, an international corporate strategist and investment banker, as well as an expert on China, who has been awarded China Reform & Friendship Medal and Chinese Government Friendship Award, has been working with his long-term partner Adam Zhu in introducing China to the world over the past 30 years. Wang is a professor at the School of Agriculture and Rural Development of Renmin University of China, member of the expert advisory committee of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development of China, and advisory expert for the United Nations Development Program, the World Bank and many other international development agencies.

Based on the analysis of typical cases of China's targeted poverty alleviation, as well as the theory, policies, practice and achievements, this book captures the remarkable governance of the CPC in leading people to eliminate poverty through a panoramic review of what China has gone through and the historic victory it has pulled off in the cause of poverty reduction. By centering on the aspects of national objectives, organization and leadership, targeted poverty alleviation, financial guarantee, concerted efforts from all walks of life, internal impetus, strict implementation and smooth transition, this book aims to send out China's voice to the outside world, share its experience, contribute its wisdom, and make China's undertakings in poverty alleviation work to the benefit of building a community with shared future for mankind.

The book's Chinese edition was published in November 2020.

Having also caught world attention, this book has its translation rights licensed to several foreign countries, with the Persian edition securing the translation subsidy from China's Belt and Road Book Program.
