In the past 300 years, the people of Jiayi village in Aksu prefecture in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region have been making traditional folk musical instruments.
The craft of making Uygur musical instruments is listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. The instruments made by the villagers are in 27 categories and 50 kinds, covering almost all that are traditional. The business has become a new economic growth source of the village.
Now about 120 villagers specialize in it, with annual sales of 20,000 pieces.
