Zhang Jiaqi, born in 2004, and Chen Yuxi, born in 2005, summoned the courage of youth to win a diving gold on July 27.
Chen and Zhang executed five near flawless dives to capture the women's synchronized 10-meter platform competition.
Zhang sees their youth as an advantage. "We are short and light, and this means that our entry (to the water) is better than the others. Our weakness is we are inexperienced," she said, adding that they had learned from the experiences of previous generations of Chinese divers.
Chen said she felt pressure because of the pair's age and lack of experience, but, she added, "We have nothing to lose, and we are brave enough to face any challenges".
