Considerable funding is needed to conserve rich biodiversity, said Alfonso Pating, project manager of China’s environmental law and governance project, Natural Resources Defense Council, and that biodiversity finance has grown into an increasingly important concept in recent years.
Pating said biodiversity funding can come from both public and private sources and biodiversity financial tools include government-related and market-related mechanisms.
Pating stressed that environmental conservation needs funding from economic stimulus packages and the cooperation between private, public and third-sector organizations to prioritize biodiversity in economic recovery and the goal of mitigating climate change.
