A talent show gathering 32 actors and actresses to stage musicals in different styles has been airing on Dragon TV since Saturday. The show, The City of Musicals, will encourage contestants like veteran singer-actor Zheng Qiyuan and Thai pop singer MiMi Lee to adapt The Phantom of the Opera and other theater classics based on Chinese culture as well as perform original material. They will undertake intense competitions, such as one-on-one battles and group contests.

Celebrities including actress Zhang Yuqi, operatic baritone Liao Changyong and Ayunga, an ethnic Mongolian singer known for his roles in musicals, serve as judges for the show. The City of Musicals aims to promote musicals among the Chinese audience and provide a platform for actors and actresses with a passion for the genre to strut their stuff.
