Music giant appoints new senior to support digital music in China
On the heels of signing a cooperative deal with Live Nation to support Chinese electronic music and artists last month, Universal Music Group appointed Carol Ding as senior vice-president and head of digital and commercial for its Chinese division, Universal Music Greater China. This newly created position signals the music giant's latest effort to expand digital landscape in China.
As a veteran with extensive experience within China's fast-evolving entertainment industry, Ding joined Universal Music Group in 2018 as vice-president in charge of global digital strategy in the Asia-Pacific region. Ding holds a Bachelor of Arts from Beijing Foreign Studies University and an MBA from New York University.
Digital platforms is now one of the fastest-expanding sectors in China's music industry. The number of new songs released on digital platforms in the Chinese language rose to 89.9 percent year on year in 2021, according to a white paper report released by TME Research Institute.
