Iran reiterates support for one-China principle
Iran firmly adheres to the one-China principle and would continue to support China's just position, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Saturday during a phone call with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Abdollahian said the one-China principle is the prerequisite for ensuring regional peace and security and Iran strongly condemns the United States' irrational acts on the Taiwan question.
Wang said China appreciated Iran's reiteration of its adherence to the one-China principle, which shows the high level of the two countries' bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.
China also resolutely supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty, national dignity and legitimate rights and interests, and opposes any bullying acts interfering in Iran's internal affairs, he added.
In recent days, over 160 countries have voiced their support for China's legitimate position in the wake of US House speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan region, which Wang said further consolidates and strengthens the consensus of the one-China principle in the international community.
China is willing to work with Iran to safeguard sovereignty, security and development interests, jointly oppose unilateralism and bullying, and jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, Wang said.
Abdollahian also briefed Wang on the latest development of the negotiation of the resumption of the Iran nuclear deal, saying Iran would strive to reach a robust and stable agreement.
In response, Wang said China appreciated Iran showed sincerity to promote the resumption of the Vienna negotiations, which conforms to Iran's interests, and expectations of the international community.
China welcomes Iran to continue to demonstrate positive posture and supports Iran's legitimate appeals, Wang said, adding China will continue to play a constructive role in its own way and is willing to maintain communication with Iran in this regard.
