Local leaders back integration into national development
Hong Kong community leaders on Saturday congratulated the Communist Party of China on the successful convening of its 20th National Congress, vowing to unite in deepening the city's integration into the nation's development.
Yiu Pak-leung, chairman of China Travel Service (Hong Kong), said the central government has, on multiple occasions, including Xi Jinping's speech on July 1 to mark the 25th anniversary to the city's return to the motherland and the important speeches at the CPC's 20th National Congress, affirmed that "one country, two systems" is the best institutional arrangement to maintain long-term prosperity and stability in the special administrative region.
Yiu, who represents the tourism sector in the Legislative Council, said the reports delivered at the congress have provided a foundation and action guide for the Hong Kong and Macao SARs.
He's confident that as long as "one country, two systems" and "patriots administering Hong Kong" are upheld accurately, Hong Kong, leveraging the nation's support and the city's global connectivity, will march ahead to better integrate itself into the nation's development and make further contributions to the country's rejuvenation.
Solicitor Nick Chan Hiu-fung, who is also director of the AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre, said the Party's and the nation's unwavering support for the implementation of "one country, two systems", as well as Hong Kong economy and its people's improved livelihood, have created a better environment for the city to integrate into the nation's development and maintain its long-term stability and prosperity.
Pledging full support for Hong Kong's integration into the nation's development, lawmaker Priscilla Leung Mei-fun said she will work side by side with the SAR government in fulfilling Xi Jinping's instructions and expectations, and in implementing the initiatives set out in the 2022 Policy Address.
She also said she'll hold steadfast to the practice of "one country, two systems" and "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong" with a high degree of autonomy, to jointly promote the steady and sustained implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle.
