China stands clear in Taiwan taking part of WHO activities
Regarding the issue of Taiwan taking part in the activities of the World Health Organization, the position of Chinese mainland has always been consistent and clear, that the one-China principle must be adhered to, Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesman with China's Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said on Friday.
He made the remarks when asked to comment on the fact that Taiwan hasn't yet received an invitation to take part in the 76th World Health Assembly, which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland between May 20 and 30.
The one-China principle is also the fundamental principle confirmed by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and World Health Assembly Resolution 25.1, Ma added.
From 2009 to 2016, on the basis of the 1992 Consensus that reflects the one-China principle, Taiwan has been allowed to participate in the WHA as an observer under the name of "Chinese Taipei" under the precondition of adhering to the one-China principle.
But the Democratic Progressive Party administration in Taiwan insists on adhering to the "Taiwan independence" position, refusing to recognize the 1992 Consensus, which means the political foundation for Taiwan to participate in the WHA no longer exists. The situation is entirely caused by the DPP administration, Ma stressed.
Taiwan compatriots are our flesh and blood so Chinese mainland cares about their well-being more than anyone else. Taiwan medical experts were among the first group of experts to arrive in Wuhan, Hubei province to gain insides about the COVID-19 virus and epidemic control measures, ma said.
He added that medical experts from Taiwan had taken part in technical activities held by the World Health Organization in 24 groups in 2022 so the channel for cooperation between them and WTO has always been open and clear.
