Residents were invited to make zongzi, a popular specialty for the Dragon Boat Festival, and other related festive activities in Guanxian county, Shandong province, during June 22-24.

Multiple communities from the county brought locals together to fill meat, beans, egg yolk and various other stuffings in glutinous rice, before shaping and wrapping them in rinsed reed leaves to make zongzi. Residents enjoyed learning from one another's recipe and some of the food was sent to households dealing with special difficulties. The goal is to carry forward traditional Chinese culture, enrich the cultural life of residents and create a festive atmosphere.

Local authorities said more pertinent folk activities will be staged in major holidays in the future.
