Students get a taste of Peking Opera
The China Soong Ching Ling Foundation has cooperated with the National Peking Opera Company to provide youngsters with an opportunity to experience the charm of Peking Opera.
A training session was organized on Friday where Ma Ailong and some other performers from the National Peking Opera Company instructed students about the fundamentals of Peking Opera, including vocal techniques, character portrayal and movements, allowing them to step into the vibrant world of this traditional art form.
The students were enthralled as the artists showcased several classic Peking Opera excerpts, demonstrating the beauty of the genre through their melodious singing, expressive eye movements and graceful hand gestures.
Under the guidance of the artists, the students participated in various interactive activities. They also learned to introduce themselves using the distinctive vocal style of Peking Opera and experienced the art of applying facial makeup.
Fan Xinran, a student from a primary school in Beijing's Dongcheng district, said: "During the interactive session of traditional Peking Opera, I immersed myself in the roles and found joy in the experience. I hope to introduce more people to the beauty of Peking Opera and become an appreciator, inheritor and promoter of traditional culture alongside my classmates."
