Medvedev reaches China Open quarterfinals

BEIJING - Daniil Medvedev overcame a ferocious fightback from Australia's Alex de Minaur to advance to the China Open quarterfinals with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win on Saturday.
The third-ranked Russian broke twice to make it 5-2 in the first set, but his game then faltered under the De Minaur's fierce attack.
The Australian broke Medvedev's serve twice to win three games in a row, leveling the score at 5-5.
Both players then held their serves, dragging the opening set into a tie-break, where Medvedev rediscovered his rhythm to win 7-3.
In the second set, Medvedev broke in the fourth game to lead 3-1, and did not allow De Minaur to claw his way back in the contest.
