The Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2024 kicks off on Tuesday in Boao, Hainan province, amid rising voices of the international community for joint efforts to revive the sluggish world economy and cope with the challenges the world is facing in development and security.

Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the nation's top legislature, will attend the opening ceremony of the event on Thursday, and deliver the keynote speech.

During the four-day event, themed "Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities", multiple activities will be held, including the opening plenary, entrepreneur dialogue, panel discussions and roundtables, providing a high-level platform for in-depth exchanges and extensive cooperation among all parties.

A number of heads of state or government will attend the conference, including Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Nauruan President David Adeang, Sri Lanka Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, and Dominica's Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

Other international guests to attend the meeting also include Samdech Techo Hun Sen, president of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Daren Tang, director-general of the World Intellectual Property Organization, and Mathias Cormann, secretary-general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Speaking at a news conference in January, Li Baodong, secretary-general of the Boao Forum for Asia, said the BFA hopes to use the event to call upon nations to bolster unity and cooperation, rebuild confidence and trust, and collectively foster peace and development.
