Multiple regions in northern China have called for residents to save water after being hit by extreme heat waves.

On Tuesday, Queshan county of Henan province asked residents to save and protect water resources to prepare for a "long-term drought", according to a report by thepaper.cn, a domestic news outlet on Wednesday.

The county's drought and flood prevention headquarters attributed the situation to not having effective rainfall for 57 days, which is expected to continue until June 21, according to the weather forecast, the report said.

Also on Tuesday, a water supply company in Jingchuan county of Gansu province said the county's water supply situation is not good due to high temperatures and little rainfall.

The company has asked residents to prepare water conservation equipment and avoid long showers, the report said.

A water supply company in Pingyin county of Shandong province issued a similar notice calling on residents to save water and be mindful of the "dire situation of water shortages".
