China expresses condolences over landslide tragedy in India
Foreign Ministry expressed on Wednesday deep condolences to the victims in a massive landslide in India and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Massive landslides hit the southern Indian state of Kerala in the early hours on Tuesday, burying a large area under debris, killing more than a hundred people and leaving scores injured.
"China has noticed the massive landslide in India and would like to express sincere condolences to the families of the victims as well as the injured, and wish the injured a speedy recovery," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a daily news briefing.
As verified by the Chinese embassy in India, no reports of casualties of Chinese citizens in the incident have been received, Lin added.
"Distressed by the landslides in parts of Wayanad. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured," Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a post on social media on Tuesday, assuring all possible help from the central government.
