The Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM), a global industrial organization, launched its 2024 open-to-public day last week to promote sustainable and responsible growth in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province.

The event attracted 10 companies from the Nanjing Jiangbei New Material Science and Technology Park to sign the Global Charter for Responsible Care. Additionally, representatives from 10 communities and schools sealed partnership deals with AICM during the open-to-public day.

Since its establishment in 1988, AICM, which presents an association of nearly 70 major multinational companies in the chemical industry of China, has been dedicated to promoting responsible care in China.

To enhance public awareness of the chemical industry, AICM has been hosting the open-to-public day annually since 2009, marking its 16th year in 2024. Under the global trend of shaping the future with green development, the 2024 event continues with the theme "Chemistry Enables a Sustainable Future."

As the event took place in Nanjing Jiangbei New Material Science and Technology Park, AICM said that the park is a crucial platform for the development of the chemical industry, playing a significant role in promoting unified safety regulation, centralized environmental management, and coordinated development of upstream and downstream industries.

"The open-to-public day is one of AICM's core projects to promote responsible care, which has been successfully held for 15 consecutive years since 2009,” said Xia Fuliang, chairman of AICM.

Xia, who is also president of China of Evonik, the German specialty chemicals manufacturer, and head of the group's smart materials division for the Asia-Pacific region, said this event serves as an important platform for AICM to promote responsible care and enhance public understanding and trust.

Tina Dai, AICM's managing director, said that AICM encourages more businesses to actively participate in open-to-public day activities, collaborating to spread the concept of responsible care to a wider audience and jointly promoting the sustainable development of the chemical industry.

In addition to the open-to-public day event, AICM will regularly hold safety workshops in the Nanjing Jiangbei New Material Science and Technology Park. These workshops aim to help companies recognize the value of responsible care and share practical methods to address management challenges and uncertainties faced by businesses operating within the park.
