The 27th Chengdu Motor Show, scheduled to kick off on Aug 30, is attracting some 130 automotive brands of different countries to showcase over 1,600 models, said Hannover Milano Fairs Shanghai, one of the event's organizers.

The event, which will run through Sept 8 in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, covers 220,000 square meters this year, the largest ever in its history.

Smart electric vehicles are to hog the limelight at the event this year, as the sector is fast evolving in the Chinese market.

Of the highly anticipated models are the Xiaomi SU7, the newly launched AITO M7 Pro as well as the Avatr 07, which is having its world premiere at the event.

International brands ranging from BMW to Bentley will wow visitors with their latest models as well.

BMW and its MINI marque are to present 13 models, the German car group's largest portfolio at the Chengdu Motor Show.

Porsche is to unveil a new version of its electric Macan at the event.

Liu Guoliang, president of Hannover Milano Fairs Shanghai, said the event is not only a window on latest automotive technology and industry trends in China but also serves as an important platform to promote the sector's development and cooperation.

The event is also expected to promote automotive sales in Sichuan province and Southwest China as a whole. By the end of 2023, Chengdu was home to over 7.1 million vehicles, ranking first among Chinese cities.

China is the world's largest vehicle market. Over 16.31 million vehicles were sold in the country in the first seven months this year, up 4.4 percent year-on-year, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
