SHANGHAI - Senior Communist Party of China official Liu Yunshan on Saturday asked for more to be done to create a sound cyber environment ahead of the 19th National Congress of the CPC next month.

Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while addressing an opening ceremony of a publicity week on Internet security in Shanghai.

Liu, also deputy head of the central internet security and informatization leading group, drew attention to the need to popularize internet security knowledge among the public and provide them with training.

The official also stressed the need for increased efforts to manage the Internet in accordance with the law and combat internet-related crime.

In order to create a clean cyber environment, Party committees and governments at various levels should fulfill their duties while internet companies should raise their awareness of social responsibility and play due roles in the process, Liu said.
