Around 6 million metric tons of petroleum has been saved in the nation since a regulation banning the use of free plastic bags was put into effect by the State Council in 2008, Economic Daily reported on Wednesday. Around 67 billion plastic shopping bags have been saved as a result of the ban, the newspaper quoted the National Development and Reform Commission as saying in a statement.
