八達(dá)嶺長城的“洗臉”工程不久將啟動，據(jù)悉，每年八達(dá)嶺長城的中外游客達(dá)400多萬，“某某到此一游”的刻痕在萬里長城的磚石上隨處可見，看來，現(xiàn)代游客們比古代野蠻部落更具“侵略性”。
報(bào)道如下：The popular Badaling section of China's Great Wall, which has suffered more at the hands of modern visitors than the barbarian invaders it was meant to keep out, may soon get aface lift.
報(bào)道中的face lift指的是“翻新”，lift有一個(gè)義項(xiàng)是“整容（除去面部皺紋的手術(shù)）”，face lift可以指整容，也能指建筑物外觀的改造和翻新，把長城上的那些刻痕給去掉，不就是給它“整容、翻新”嗎？看來，用face lift來比喻“翻新”，真是很貼切。
