Take your pick, have your fill

By Sun Yuanqing | China Daily | Updated: 2017-01-02 07:32

App-based food delivery services have proved to be a great convenience for consumers, becoming popular in just a few years. Such apps perform similar functions, but target different groups of customers.

If you are deterred by the winter cold, and wondering which app to download, here is a ready-reckoner on the major ones:

Take your pick, have your fill

Ele.me

Most popular among college students, this app has grown on support from the vibrant Chinese social media, especially on university campuses.

The app has a large network of vendors, a situation that also comes with some challenges. Following media reports earlier this year that some of its vendors were unlicensed, the app apologized and said it would work on better management.

Earlier this year, Ele.me merged with Koubei Takeout, one of the country's oldest delivery apps. Backed by e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, it has attracted users of Taobao and Alipay, both Alibaba operations. The app has former US basketball star Kobe Bryant and Chinese actor Wong Cho-lam as its ambassadors, catering to young crowds.
