Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is briefly named Xin, with Urumqi as its provincial seat. Xinjiang is situated in the northwest of China and in the center of Eurasian continents. Xinjiang is an important production base of cotton, especially the long-staple cotton. The heavy industry of Xinjiang is composed of iron & steel, petroleum, coal, electric power, machinery, electronics, chemical industry and building materials, whereas, the light industry includes cotton spinning, wool spinning, sugar-making, paper-making, porcelain enamel, glass, leather and cigarette etc.
In 2010, Xinjiang’s GDP totaled 500 billion yuan.
新疆維吾爾自治區(qū)，簡(jiǎn)稱新，首府烏魯木齊。新疆位于中國(guó)西北部，地處亞歐大陸中心。是中國(guó)最重要的棉花特別是長(zhǎng)絨棉生產(chǎn)基地。擁有鋼鐵、石油、煤炭、電力、機(jī)械、電子、化工、建材等重工業(yè)。輕工業(yè)主要有棉紡、毛紡、制糖、造紙、搪瓷、玻璃、皮革、卷煙等。
2010年新疆生產(chǎn)總值5000億元。
Xinjiang is rich in resources. It has not only abundant mineral resources like coal, petroleum and natural gas, but also adequate and unique tourism resources. The implementation of the national strategy of developing the west has brought Xinjiang with even greater opportunities of development, as the exploitation and utilization of various resources calls for rapid increase of passenger and freight transportations between Xinjiang and the inland.
