下面這則新聞,可能會令老師、家長甚至性教育家大吃一驚。一項在北京某區所做的調查顯示,北京的中學生遠比社會所想象的“開放”:一半以上的受訪學生認為“一夜情”沒什么錯,6.2%的人承認他們有過性行為。

報道中的“one-night
stand”就是“一夜情”,或者“露水之歡”。該短語常用來比喻“結合”并非為求天長地久,通常是雙方在不十分了解的前提下的“性行為”,當事人也不用為對方負責。
“One-night stand”原指巡回演出劇團在某地“一夜的駐留”,“stand”本意指“停留演出,停留演出劇場”,如:to open a
four-week stand(為期4周的停留演出)。隨著時間的推移,俚語中常用“one-night stand”來比喻隨風而逝的“愛”。
看下面一個例句:I am hoping for a lasting relation, not just one-night
stand.(我希望擁有持久的關系,而不是一夜情。)
