報道中的“half brother”指的是“同母異父兄弟”。在其它情況下，依據(jù)上下文情況，“half
brother”除表示“同母異父兄弟”，也可用來形容“同父異母兄弟”。
相應的，詞綴“half-”還可和不同的詞連用，如：half-sister（異父或異母姐妹）；half-blood（同父異母者，同母異父者）；halfcaste（混血兒，歐亞混血兒）；half-breed（雜種，混血兒，常指黑人與白人的后代）。
