First botanic garden in Bengbu starts construction
Updated: 2013-01-30

Plans for the first botanic garden in Bengbu city, named Taoshan, have been released. As planned, the garden will complete construction at the end of 2013.

Taoshan Botanic Garden will cover an area of 40.2 hectares. The garden will consist mostly of well vegetated hills. The garden is a long-term protection, which will increase the abundance of plants in Taoshan. Its downtown location can also be considered an advantage.

The completed botanic garden will be divided into nine parts including: the entrance landscape area, themed gardens, a bonsai corridor, a hydrophyte area, a mountain area, an experience and development zone, a life and management area, an introduced trees and flowers model base, and a plants display area. Multifarious gardens will bring a touch of green and the fragrance of flowers to visitors all year round. The bonsai plants and hydrophytes will be a visual feast for visitors.

The botanic garden, whose initial construction cost amounts to 12 million yuan ($1.93 million), will be included in the Flower-Drum Lanterns Carnival Project. The municipal forestry bureau has already built a nursery spanning over 100 mu (about 6 hectares) as part of the botanic garden.
