The Beizhai Cherry Festival kicked off on May 22, attracting a total of 300,000 visitors that consumed around 140,000 kilograms of cherries by May 29, Qingdao Morning News reported.
Visitors coming to Beizhai at this time can taste abundant cherries in five communities: Qiyu, Yukuang, Xiagechang, Wole and Muwushi. The cherry orchard in Youyou Valley has a special type of cherry called "Pearl Cherry" that grows on 1-meter-tall trees, small enough for 3 and 4-year-old children to pick.
Visitors can spend 30 to 40 yuan ($4.90 to $6.50) each for access to cherry orchards during the Cherry Festival. Cherries sell for 30 to 40 yuan per kilogram. Cherry-picking season will last until June.
