A group of medical experts from Shanghai was sent to Karamay to boost medical discipline and standards in the western Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region city on April 6.

A seminar detailing the innovative practices carried out in Shanghai hospitals was held at Karamay’s own central hospital.

Jiang Dongdong, deputy secretary of Karamay municipal Party committee and Wu Guangming, vice president of Xinjiang University, unveiled plans for a Shanghai experts’ studio focused on medical assistance.

An agreement was signed between representatives from Karamay Central Hospital and three Shanghai hospitals led by Tongji University to secure the partnership.

“The setup of the studio is a significant milestone in our talent support for Xinjiang,” said Zhao Dandan, deputy director of Shanghai’s Health and Family Planning Commission, during the ceremony.

The central government first started the Shanghai-Xinjiang pairing assistance in 2015, and so far, achievements have been made in diagnoses ranging from minor ailments to hard-to-diagnose diseases.

Lectures have been held frequently to popularize greater health knowledge, as well as two treatment centers being funded to deal with the prostatic disorders and pelvic floor dysfunctions.

Jiang Dongdong also said the government will further advance health services in Karamay and build a health city in cooperation with Shanghai experts.

To make the most of the studio, Jiang suggested accelerating the training of the local medical staff and extending the coverage to benefit more hospitals and residents.
