Comment on "Cost of smoking higher than revenue" (Nov 22, China Daily)
I've always believed that tobacco kills not only smokers, but also non-smokers who become victims of passive smoking. Now studies show that the cost of smoking is higher than the revenue it helps collect. The cost would multiply if we consider that taxpayers have to pay part of the bill for treatment of tobacco-related illnesses and health insurance.
I wonder why the government does not ban smoking completely. There is no reason for it to drag its feet on this urgent health matter. To start with, it should ban smoking in all public places in all Chinese cities.
