The latest judicial interpretation of the Marriage Law has stirred up controversy. China Daily's mobile news readers share their views.

As far as I am concerned, it is more in favor of men than women. Though there are some women who want to obtain material gains through marriage, if only the husband's name is registered when buying a house, his spouse will get nothing if he has extramarital affairs and asks for divorce. Women must be independent. Hopefully the relevant department will someday secure the rights and interests of women dedicated to their family.

I think the judicial interpretation will change young people's values about marriage and love. Economic security after marriage is important. It is still a woman's concern whether the man has car or house, but the latest explanation will cause a sense of insecurity. However, I don't think women will be disadvantaged: they can have their own career and economic strength, or even surpass their male counterparts.

While heatedly debating the new judicial explanation, many have ignored the fact that the purpose of a marriage is not divorce. If a woman only marries a man for his money, it is obviously unfair for his family to split half of the property. A happy couple will not divorce. Only those who have ulterior motives will feel threatened.

The new Marriage Law is made to protect the interests of the rich. A "wealthy man", once his marriage breaks down, will pay nothing for his extramarital affairs no matter how much of a Casanova he is. The law protects men from women who marry only for money, but such women are only a minority.

Cars and houses have already become important factors that decide whether a woman willing to marry a man. The latest Marriage Law will influence women's perspective on marriage to a great extent and may be detrimental to a family's harmony, since wives may have other concerns that make them less dedicated to family life than before.

It is a sad topic. The skyrocketing prices of houses mean we are constantly on the run and we have become indifferent to love, family, friendship and even our own health.
