A vagrant found in a cold abandoned factory in Ningbo, Zhejiang province shocked the country as he was found to be a computer graduate from Fudan University and a former public servant. The family, colleges and society should learn a lesson from the extreme case, says an article on rednet.cn. Excerpts:

A homeless vagrant surnamed Wu couldn't find an appropriate job after graduation and his money was stolen after he arrived in Ningbo.

His personal experiences raise questions over whether higher education is losing its advantages for employment in recent years. A university diploma no longer guarantees good jobs and many graduates cannot handle the psychological difficulties, while some have even committed suicide.

Wu's case is not isolated. Although there is great demand for workers, many college graduates can't find jobs.

The core problem appears to be that our higher education system seems to be increasingly impractical for social needs and the human resources market. It's not a graduate's fault to expect better and skilled jobs with a college degree. This issue needs more reflection among students, families, colleges and related authorities as they should think about their responsibilities.
