Web celebrities and people known to be involved in scandals will not be allowed to be guests on TV shows according to Li Wei, deputy director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television. TV programs should not become too recreational or vulgar, says an article in Qianjiang Evening News. Excerpts:

The behavior of some people who have become famous online runs counter to Chinese traditional culture and core social values. One such celebrity who was a guest on a TV matchmaking program claimed she would not mind being a man's mistress as long as the man was rich enough.

As the traditional mainstream media, TV should maintain its credibility and authority compared with the Internet. But it only promotes unhealthy culture by inviting online celebrities who win attention by their out-of-line words and deeds to be guests on shows. Such celebrities suggest it is easy and requires no effort to become well-known.

If people who gain popularity by exhibiting their wealth or showing off their avarice appear on TV, it inevitably fuels their reputation and misleads the audience to accept them as "cultural diversity", which will eventually influence the values of the public, teenagers in particular.
