Earth-covered stone caves widely distributed in Yuntai Mountain area, Lianyungang, Jiangsu province, are pointed to as signs of cultural exchanges between China and the outside world.

The origin and functions of these stone caves have yet to be confirmed by literature and history authorities. However, similar earth-covered stone-chamber tombs were found in South Korea.

According to historical research, the origins of the stone chambers in South Korea can be traced back to the Paekche period (18 BC– 660 AD), which overlaps the reign of Tang Dynasty (618-907) in China.

As some historical mysteries and clues may lie behind the stone caves in Lianyungang and those in South Korea, researchers from both countries keep working to solve the puzzle.
