BAGHDAD?- The talks between six world powers and Iran over Tehran's nuclear issue gained new achievements, a Chinese government official said in Iraqi capital Baghdad on Thursday at the conclusion of a two-day meeting between the parties.

China's Assistant Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, who is also Beijing's representative to the talks on Iran's nuclear program, said in a statement after the meeting that all parties held serious and useful discussions focusing on the Iranian nuclear issue.

The talks between Iran and the UN Security Council's five permanent members plus Germany, known as P5+1, were held at Baghdad's Guest House compound from Wednesday to Thursday.

"All sides put forward their concerns and proposals, as differences and common ground both exist," ?said the Chinese official.

"Based on a step-by-step approach and reciprocity, all sides, during the meeting, declared their willingness to address the issue through dialogue, " he said.

Ma said China spares no effort in discussions and dialogue. "We have kept frequent contacts with all sides, urging for dialogue," he said.

Ma meanwhile noted that the Iranian nuclear issue is a complicated and sensitive one, stressing that "We may encounter difficulties or setbacks of all kinds while the dialogue process is progressing."

China will continue to work with all sides to promote talks and peace, standing ready to play a constructive role in the settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue through peaceful dialogue, he said.
