Two protesters killed in clashes with security force in Turkey

ANKARA - Two protesters were killed during clashes with soldiers in Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbakir on Saturday, local Daily News reported on Sunday.

Clashes erupted when demonstrations linked to the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party against the construction of a gendarmerie posts in Diyarbakir's Lice district was met with crackdown by the local soldiers on June 7.

Two protestors were killed and three others including two soldiers were also hospitalized for injuries, local officials confirmed Sunday.

Witnesses said Turkish soldiers fired live bullets during the clashes, while demonstrators hurled stones and fireworks at security forces, said the report.

Widespread protests were staged across eastern and southeastern Turkey against the construction of security posts in the region, which have been continuing for nearly two weeks.
