Village in Shanxi flourishes with red lantern industry
As the winter days begin, workers in Yangzhao village in Jishan county of Yuncheng, Shanxi province, are making various models of red lanterns in the village's lantern industrial park.
Creating red lanterns is a detailed process that includes cutting and printing, sewing lantern covers, threading steel wires, fitting frames, pulling gold bars and drying.
Locals have crafted red lanterns for more than 100 years. The village has promoted lantern-making as a core brand industry to help farmers start businesses and increase their incomes.
In recent years, residents have improved their skills and promoted new products, decorating the lanterns with different patterns or words.
More than 40 households in the village are engaged in lantern production, with an annual output of 10 million pairs of lanterns.
They sell their products in different regions across the country.
