International students, joining hands with Chinese students, contributed to the parcel boom at universities all over China after the Singles Day shopping gala.

Express delivery pickup areas in Chinese universities such as the University of International Business and Economics, Changchun University and Zhengzhou University have welcomed a parcel delivery surge after the Singles Day shopping festival.

Many students, including international students at the universities, are very happy as their goods have been delivered at an amazing speed.

The number of parcels delivered to universities these days are many times more than normal, with daily necessities and books constituting the major products purchased by students, said Liu Wei, a courier in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin province.

Alibaba, China's leading e-commerce platform, recorded 168.3 billion yuan ($25.4 billion) in sales on the ninth Singles Day shopping festival, which is similar to Black Friday in the US but has many more transactions.

About 850 million logistics orders were made on Chinese e-commerce platforms on Nov 11 this year, a 29.4 percent increase year-on-year, according to monitoring data from the State Post Bureau of the People's Republic of China.

Postal and express companies dealt with about 331 million parcels that day, a 31.5 percent increase year-on-year, the data show.

About 3 million people, 30 million square meters of space, 90,000 transport vehicles and over 90 all-cargo aircraft have been used to manage the parcel delivery boom generated by the Singles Day shopping spree.

The storage capacity of the postal delivery industry has increased by 30 percent to 50 percent more than usual, according to monitoring data from the State Post Bureau of the People's Republic of China.
