A survey conducted by a college in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, said that about 53 percent of governmental staff polled do not support delaying retirement, Xi'an Evening News reported on Nov 25.

The survey was conducted recently by the Institute of Statistics under the Xi'an University of Finance. Among the 328 polled, 175, or about 53 percent, said they would not support such a policy.

Only 58 people, or 18 percent, support retirement delay, and 96, or 29 percent, said it did not matter.

The survey showed that more female employees than male ones support a later retirement. Young people also showed more for the idea.

The top three supporters by profession were technicians/engineers, individual/private enterprises owners and professionals such as lawyers and accountants. Company workers did not want to delay their retirement time.

Also supporting a later retirement were workers with a salary of less than 1,000 yuan ($160) a month, those with a salary of 1,000 to 3,000 yuan a month, and those with a salary of more than 10,000 yuan per month.

Yu Bin, the professor in charge of the survey, said that the result showed that retirement delay was complicated and feelings of different?walks should be fully considered.
