Haunted house asking one million yuan in rent

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2017-03-01 13:44

Beijing's most notorious "haunted house" is seeking new tenants after months of renovation, according to the property's rental agent KongJianJia.

The property at 81 Inner Chaoyangmen Main Street was originally built in 1910 by the French and is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Beijing.

Its long-time deserted status led to rumors that the place was haunted. The property was even featured in the 2014 movie The House That Never Dies, featuring paranormal happenings in abandoned mansions. The property has become a tourist attraction with brave visitors venturing inside on exploration tours every year.

Meng Qi, the diocese's director of infrastructure, said the widely circulated ghostly stories are fictional.

The newly-renovated elective European-style mansions have been equipped with running water, electricity, heating and central air conditioning. The hardwood floor, large windows and painted walls leave no traces of the sad state the place was in.

The property has been listed on the agent's website for 10 million yuan a year.

The agent described it is ideal for hosting commercial events and exhibitions.

They are yet to find a willing tenant, only curious passers-by who stop to take a peak through the closed gates.

Guo Xiaojun contributed to this story.
