In 1980, the world's democratically elected female president took office in Iceland. Iceland's ambassador to China, Kristin Arnadottir, said that election was encouraging to women in her country and hopefully to women around the world. "Women in Iceland are very independent. They are strong," Arnadottir said. "Iceland is proud of milestones in our history that have significance for the rest of the world."
1980年，冰島產生了世界上第一位由民主選舉產生的女性總統。冰島駐華大使柯絲婷女士在接受中國日報網獨家專訪時說，那次選舉對冰島乃至世界女性而言都是一種巨大的鼓舞。她說，“冰島女性十分獨立，也十分堅強。冰島對于其歷史上對整個世界都產生影響力的那些里程碑感到十分自豪。”
