美國(guó)國(guó)會(huì)參議院情報(bào)委員會(huì)主席黛安娜?范斯坦28日說(shuō)，鑒于美國(guó)國(guó)家安全局沒(méi)有就針對(duì)其他國(guó)家領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人的監(jiān)聽(tīng)活動(dòng)作正式匯報(bào)，該委員會(huì)將對(duì)美情報(bào)機(jī)構(gòu)的所有監(jiān)視項(xiàng)目展開(kāi)“全面審查”。

Anger over Washington's extensive eavesdropping on world leaders and ordinary citizens has shown no signs of abating, as observers say using anti-terrorism as an excuse for pervasive surveillance is "hypocritical and abused".
針對(duì)華盛頓方面大面積監(jiān)聽(tīng)世界各地領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人及普通民眾行為的怒氣并未有消散的跡象，觀(guān)察人士表示，用反恐作為大面積監(jiān)控的借口是“虛偽的，同時(shí)也是在濫用權(quán)力”。
這里的eavesdrop指to listen secretly what other people are saying（偷聽(tīng)別人說(shuō)話(huà)，竊聽(tīng)），常用的搭配就是eavesdrop on somebody；與其意思相近的表達(dá)還有listen in，如：Someone was listening in on our conversation.（有人在偷聽(tīng)我們談話(huà)）
與此相關(guān)的報(bào)道中還可以見(jiàn)到intercept和wiretap兩個(gè)詞。
Intercept指to stop and take someone or something that is going from on place to another place before that person or thing gets there，即“攔截，截取”，如：Detectives have been intercepting her mail.（偵查人員一直在攔截她的郵件）
Wiretap則指“竊聽(tīng)器”或者“在電話(huà)中安裝竊聽(tīng)器以實(shí)施竊聽(tīng)”，及“電話(huà)竊聽(tīng)”，如：The FBI wiretapped his phone.（聯(lián)邦調(diào)查局竊聽(tīng)了他的電話(huà)）口語(yǔ)中還常用bug一詞來(lái)表示“竊聽(tīng)”，如：The police bugged his apartment.（警察對(duì)他家實(shí)施竊聽(tīng)）。
這三個(gè)詞的區(qū)別是，在eavesdrop和wiretap的情況下，信息是在對(duì)話(huà)雙方不知情的情況下被秘密獲取的，雙方對(duì)話(huà)交流并不受影響；而在intercept的情況下，信息是中途被攔截，并不能按照發(fā)出的要求到達(dá)指定接收者。
